53 year old Edgar Heinrich has been named the new director of design for BMW Motorrad. He will be taking over for BMW AG's motorcycle division on 1st of July 2012. He steps into the shoes of David Robb who oversaw the luxury vehicle maker's motorcycle design operations for 18 years.
During his tenure at BMW, he has been responsible for Motorrad's first 4-valve boxer models. This includes the R 1100 RS, and R 1100 RT. He also oversaw work on the four-cylinder K 1200 S and K 1200R, HP Megamoto off-road, and the Paris-Dakar racing bikes.
Having worked with BMW since 1986, he started as a motorcycle designer. He went on to work as head of vehicle design for BMW Motorrad under David Robb from 2007 to 2009. In 2009 July, he left to work with Bajaj Auto Ltd., an Indian vehicle manufacturer. At present, he is the vice president of product design for Bajaj Auto Ltd., where he oversees brand strategy for their two wheelers and four wheel vehicles.
