It was in early 2012 that Japanese automakers Nissan Motors confirmed the launch of a five door hatchback which once launched would compete with Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus and Opel Astra. Nissan has the confidence of building a mainstream compact model and development plans are underway for this five door hatchback which is yet to make its way into markets.

Nissan’s head of product planning Andy Palmer has announced that the car in question is currently being developed while launch is scheduled for two years hence. The upcoming vehicle has been inspired by the future Qashqai and Invitation concept which was on display at the Geneva Auto Show earlier this year.

Besides its Qashqai design, the five door model will also sport the latest in technology and will be built at the company plant in Sunderland. This is the first time that Nissan has offered a new car in the small family hatchback class since 2006 when Almera was withdrawn. The same formula was used in launch of Juke in 2010. Now with sights set on more mainstream model Nissan is going ahead with plans even though the new model will still take two more years to completion.
