Volkswagen Dune concept looks pleasing at 2014 NAIAS Detroit

At the 2014 NAIAS, Detroit, Volkswagen has brought in a new concept, a sporty and adventure friendly Dune Buggy version of Volkswagen Beetle. Apart from this, they also show us their Passat BlueMotion concept and high powered Golf R.

Volkswagen Dune concept is based on the Beetle R Line model and is powered by a punchy 2.0 liter turbocharged four cylinder engine with 155 kW of power. This is the same engine that is seen on board the previous Volkswagen Golf GTI and is mated to a six speed DSG dual clutch automatic transmission. It also receives Volkswagen’s XDS electronic differential locking system which aids traction on front axle.

vw dune concept at 2014 detroit (1)Dune, the newest off roader concept version of Volkswagen Beetle even gets added ground clearance of 51 mm, added length of 12 mm, width by 559 mm and tall by 20 mm. To keep with its sportier appeal, designers have bolted a pair of skis to the roof of the vehicle to display a go anywhere stance.

The new Beetle Dune Concept car was earlier peresented at LA Auto Show in 2000. While the earlier model was not very practical, 2014 Dune Concept could go into production in the not too distant future. Scan through the press release and image gallery below.
