Two black colored BMW cars crashed close to junction five of the M1, near Watford at 2.30 am yesterday morning. The cars, according to eyewitnesses, seemed to be travelling at close to 140 mph (225 kmph) appeared to be in a high speed race but it left two young men aged 22 and 24 years respectively, killed and four injured. Three of the six injured needed to be cut free by fire fighters to get them out of mangled remains.
Eye witnesses reported that the two black BMWs were travelling along the M1 at 140 mph when one clipped the central reservation and bounced off the bridge directly into the path of another BMW causing severe damage to both vehicles. Following the crash, a third car, a Mercedes, approached the accident site. Four passengers got out of this car and started fighting with survivors of the crash, accusing them of killing their friends.
Basit Nasir, an onlooker tried to break up the fight and called the police from his mobile phone. He stated that the two vehicles involved in the crash were a BMW 5 Series and 7 Series while their four friends who arrived later were in a silver colored Mercedes C220. The accident caused five junctions of the motorway to be closed for a few hours while fire tenders and ambulances dealt with the accident and victims extricating them from the wreckage and getting them to hospital.
