To help make the worlds roads safer to travel and at the same time safeguard interests of drivers, BMW Group in collaboration with Continental will be developing an electronic co-pilot system that is designed to support automated driving. Technologies and solutions will be designed and developed on basis of varied driver assistance modules being developed.

The project between BMW and Continental will stretch from 2013 to 2014 and will focus on developing prototype solutions to be used for automated driving instances. Once developed they will then be tested by trained drivers to rate automated driving functions. These systems are being developed to help drivers overcome situations that they face on motorways in Germany and Europe.

BMW is also testing a prototype autonomous driver module and it hopes that these driver solutions will help to alleviate stress caused as also number of accidents caused on motorways around the world. The prototype from BMW is able to navigate through traffic on its own and keeping in mind traffic rules and signs.  It also has sensors that monitor health parameters of an individual and if there is an emergency, this system will shift to the automated driving mode and bring the vehicle to a stop safely.
