New launches from BMW in the months ahead will include the 7 series ActivHybrid L which is a mild hybrid with a small electric engine supporting 4.4 liter V8 engine developing 466 PS power and 706 Nm torque. This engine is mated to 20PS electric motor which together propels the car from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.9 seconds.
BMW i8 Hybrid launch is also scheduled so as to enhance the company’s green image in India. The BMW i8 could launch by the end of this year, will come in as a CBU and will be built of light weight materials. It will be powered by a 1.5 liter three cylinder turbo petrol engine offering peak power of 234 PS and returning 50 kmpl on the EU cycle. The BMW i8 made its presence felt globally at the Frankfurt Motor Show and in India at the 2014 Auto Expo in February. Eager to refresh the MINI range in India, BMW will also be introducing the Cooper, Cooper S and Countryman in India.
BMW India wishes to open 12 more dealerships by the end of 2015. In April, BMW opened its newest dealership in Madri Industrial Area in Udaipur, Rajasthan, called Sanghi Classic. BMW has a current total of 38 showrooms across India which they wish to take upto 50 by end of 2015 and gear up to concentrate on high end cars rather than emphasis on volumes as part of their new strategy. BMW has 9 cars in their Indian portfolio, most of which are assembled at the company plant in Chennai.
