Camaro Z1 and Shelby GT 500 go head-to head on test track (Video)
Although every car maker makes claims about various aspects of power in regard with their models, the best way to bring things to light is…
In the horsepower segment it was Ford’s Shelby GT 500 that got the thumbs up for its raw 595 hp and 602 pound-ft torque. Chevrolet’s Camaro Z1 figures read 497 hp and 497 pound-ft torque.
High numbers translate to high speeds. As expected the GT 500 was faster than its rival, Z1. Ford clocked 0 to 60 in 4.0 seconds and completed a 400 m test in 11.9 seconds (exit speed 198.7 kph), whereas Chevrolet recorded 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds completing the quarter mile test in 12.4 seconds (exit speed 184.6 kph).

Not only did the Z1 beat the GT 500 comfortably, it also beat Corvette ZR1 and matched Porsche 911 GT2 RS and McLaren MP4-12 C in the lateral acceleration department.
Camaro Z1 with its 6.2 liter V8 is available at a price of $ 54,995 where as the Shelby with its supercharged V8 comes at a price of $ 54,200. Both cars include optional packages.
