Is this new Fiat Linea base variant? Spy shots suggest so!
While automakers rush to drawing board to convert B segment hatchbacks to compact sedans; take the case of Tata Indica turned Indigo, Maruti Swift made DZire, Hyundai Grand i10 based Xcent and upcoming Tata Zest and Bolt made on same platform; there may be a new move coming to market.
Spy shots of facelifted Fiat Linea with bare black bumpers suggest Italian carmaker may be cutting cost to compete with aforementioned budget sedans.
While this is no sub-4 metre car, pulling out pricey and trendy features could effectively bring down expenses, thereby helping place new Fiat Linea competitive to segment leading compact sedans. While this may affect Linea’s image as it is currently competing against Honda City and Hyundai Verna, bringing prospective buyers to showroom through introducing more affordable base variant could do Fiat more favour than damage. Considering unstable monthly sales of around 500 units, why not expand Linea’s league is what Fiat India may be thinking.
It may come as a shock to Fiat followers, but on the bright side, you get class leading ground clearance and amazing dynamics of Fiat Linea easier on the pocket. If the story does come to be true, expect price tag to carry just above Rs. 6 lakh figure; ex-showroom of-course. Current petrol variant starts at Rs. 6.99 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
