Honda Activa production at Narsapura Plant begins
Honda Motorcycle & Scooters India (HMSI) has commenced production operations at their recently inaugurated plant at Narsapura, District Kolar (Karnataka). This is the third production plant of the company and will begin production of their popular gearless scooter Activa.
The plant touted as HMSIs most advanced and extensive plant is spread over an area of 96 acres. In Phase I, the plant, which was set up at an investment of INR 1,350 crores will have an installed capacity of 12 lakh units per annum. This will be increased to 18 lakh units in Phase II by end of the current financial year, while HMSI’s three plants will have 64% increased annual production.
Two wheeler sales in India are growing by leaps and bounds. Domestic sales have crossed 1.38 crore units with most sales noted in the southern states of India. The newly inaugurated Narsapura plant offers employment to a total of 4,500 people. HMSI also follows up with its safety first policy called ‘People Come First’ which has been at the forefront of the company’s endeavors ever since 1970. This effort has now spread across to 36 countries with various safety strategies and education programs being organized training people from the age of 5 years to adults.
