India bound Datsun will also head to S Africa by 2014

Datsun brand will soon be available in South Africa, India, Indonesia and Russia from as early as 2014. This was announced at a press conference held at the Nissan Yokohama plant held on Monday. Datsun will be bringing in their first passenger car into South African markets by the end of 2014 while the three other markets will follow suit.

Datsun’s story with South Africa began with the Bluebird which made its debut at the Pretoria Show in 1958. 120Y and SSS models were hot favorites in the country and even went on to be the number one brand back in 1976-78. Datsun business unit head, Vincent Cobee, also did not rule out the fact that the vehicle may be produced from the Nissan plant in Rosslyn on the outskirts of Pretoria. This new endeavor by Datsun brand to enter South African markets is a part of the company’s Nissan Power 88 plan to target 8% market share and 8% operating profit globally by the year 2016.
