Former British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill’s Land Rover was recently auctioned Cheffins Vintage Sale, at Cambridgeshire, Ely for a price more than double its estimated expectations. This is the very same Land Rover which was presented to Winston Churchill on his 80th birthday way back on 30th November 1954. The vehicle which was used by Churchill to tour around his Kent estate at Chartwell has only clocked 20,812kms and was in pristine condition at the time of auction.

Cheffins auctioneers stated that the vehicle was the most expensive item in its auction of more than 2000 vintage cars and motorbikes The Land Rover in question was purchased by a private buyer for a knock down price of £129,000 way above its estimated price. Name of this bidder has been withheld as he preferred to remain anonymous.

The car came along with an original log book and was specially designed keeping Churchill’s preferences in mind. Seats are extra wide, possesses padded fold down arm rests and a heated footwell. Its previous owner kept the Land Rover in a shed in Kent ever since 1977. It is a 1954 Series 1 Land Rover registered as UKE 80 in the name of “Rt Hon Sir Winston Spencer Churchill KG. OM. CH. MP. Chartwell, Westerham, Kent”.
