Maruti Suzuki India has taken their first step towards a better environment by launching 5 of their top models in CNG. The cars that will now be available with company fitted CNG option are Alto, Wagon R, Estillo, Eeco and SX4. As of now these cars will only be available in Delhi, NCR, and Gujarat. Maruti will launch in other parts of the country at a later stage. All these cars will be fitted with the new iGPI or Intelligent Gas Port Ignition system.
Minister of State for Forest and Environment, Mr. Jairam Ramesh unveiled the new cars along with some Maruti Suzuki India heads. Mr. R C Bhargava, MSI Chairman said, "We are happy to bring contemporary CNG technology to the Indian customer. We are confident customers would value our i-GPI technology that is safe, reliable, clean, responsive and environment friendly. Adapting the CNG technology in our vehicles is another step to keep low cost of ownership for our customers."
The i-GPI technology allows the engine to be as effective and powerful as a petrol engine along with benefits of low emissions. Maruti has tested the CNG engine thoroughly by driving for over 2 lakh kilometres. The CNG unit is fitted with an ECU (Engine Control Unit) which controls the amount of as pumped into each cylinder intelligently according to the driving conditions.
MSI CEO and MD, Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi said, "The development is significant on multiple counts. This is the first instance when a car manufacturer has developed and launched factory-fitted technologically superior CNG engines in India. Compressed Natural Gas is environment friendly and also reduce country's dependence on imported fuels. Maruti Suzuki's big ticket entry into CNG fuel segment augurs well for the environment."

• Eeco 5-seater Ac - 3.64
• SX4 Vxi - 7.47
• WagonR Lxi - 4.11
• Estilo Lxi - 4.05
