Maruti Suzuki ordered to pay Rs 3 lakh for selling faulty WagonR
It was 10 years ago that Maruti Suzuki sold a WagonR hatchback to, Pravenchandra Shetty. Ever since the date of purchase, the vehicle has made umpteen trips to the workshop where several parts have been changed. This led the buyer to the conclusion that the vehicle itself was defective and hence approached the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC).
In his complaint, Shetty contended that it was right from the start that the vehicle gave problems in the form of abnormal vibrations which could not be solved despite the fact that various parts were changed. This indicated that the WagonR had certain manufacturing defects. Shetty gets to receive compensation to the tune of INR 3 lakhs from the company even though the car has traveled over a distance of 1 lakh kms from 2003 to 2013.
