Mercedes Benz India July-Dec 45% sales increase, 9003 cars sold in Year of Offensive

Mercedes-benz India has ended their most glorious year ever in terms of sales. 2013 saw the automaker record highest ever retail sales here with 9003 units sold in 2013. This equates to 32% YOY sales growth over 2012 with 6840 cars sold through last year. Strange are the way of numbers as Audi India had ended 2012 with exactly the same number of cars sold. Lucky number 9003.

Eberhard Kern, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India commented “We are very satisfied with our performance in 2013 which we called the ‘Year of Offensive’. We are happy that our New A-Class, New E-Class and the SUV portfolio saw robust demand amidst challenging market conditions. Our consumers have clearly appreciated our initiatives and we enter 2014 with a clear promise of delivering “Excellence.”

Mercedes-Benz India registered 16% sales growth in H1(Jan to June) 2013. This trend was further bettered by 45% in H2.(July to Dec) 2013. Last year being the ‘Year of Offensive’, MB India focussed on 4 pillars of Products, Network, Cost of Ownership and Brand Experiences.

Taking big strides forward on the back of 8 new launches to strengthen their vehicle portfolio, and network expansion has worked in tandem. 2013 also stood testimony to low cost of ownership initiatives such as “My Mercedes” program. Inauguration of ‘Centre of Excellence’ located within their Chakan plant Pune was the last stop they pulled. With 2014, cometh the ‘Year of Excellence’ for Mercedes-Benz India, which begins on a path of luxury with the new S-class launch scheduled for 8th January.
