Mitsubishi unveiled the GR-HEV hybrid pickup truck concept at 2013 Geneva Motor Show and showcased the same at 2103 Bangkok Motor Show as well. It is evident from the spy shot that new Triton carries a number of styling cues from the GR-HEV concept. Like the new 12th generation Nissan Navara, Triton also shines with lot of chrome on the front fascia, but the latter has vertical slats for front grille as opposed to horizontal bars on Navara and the GR-HEV concept.
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and Nissan Motor Company were supposed to co-develop the next generation version of their one-tonne pickups; Triton and Navara. But the Joint Venture was called off and both parties decided to develop their pickup trucks on their own. The NP300 Navara, which was recently unveiled in Thailand does not share any parts with Mitsubishi Triron.
However, the co-development of small cars for Japanese market and sharing of Mitsubishi’s plant at Chonburi district in Thailand to roll out the new Navara is still on play.
New Mitsubishi Triron, to be launched in few months, will compete with Nissan Navara and Isuzu D-Max range of pickups.
