Pope’s Harley-Davidson auctioned for €241,500 (Rs 2.05 crores)
A 2013 Harley Davidson 1,585 cc FXDC Dyna Super Glide presented to Pope Francis on the occasion of 110th anniversary of Harley Davidson in June 2013 was on auction at the Grand Palais in Paris. It was sold to an unidentified buyer for €241,500, while all proceeds will go towards to Caritas Rome’s Don Luigi di Liegro shelter and soup kitchen in Rome.
2013 Harley-Davidson 1,585 cc FXDC Dyna Super Glide has never been ridden and Pope Francis has even signed on its fuel tank last November thus adding to its value. Besides the Harley Davidson bike, a size XL Harley Davidson biker’s jacket also presented to Pope Francis was auctioned at London based Bonhams, while the pontiff has signed on the lining.
Besides the Pope’s motorcycle, there were a total of 300 legendary vehicles which included models from Rolls Royce, Facel Vega, Cadillac and Panhard and the very sight of these bikes drew the attention of a host of bidders. The famed Harley Davidson was grabbed within 6 minutes of going on auction and drew 14 times the estimated winning bid of €15,000.
Sold to an unidentified bidder, who made the winning bid of €241,500 ($327,670 or Rs 2.05 crores) by telephone, he/she will need to pay an additional €30,000 for auction costs.
