With only three scooters which include the Access and Swish in the 125cc segment and Lets in the 110 cc segment, Suzuki aims to elevate its position from a current fourth position by launching new products this year. They also aim to overtake their old partner TVS from the third spot in the future. The top two in the two scooter industry are Honda and Hero.
Japanese two wheeler makers, Suzuki, have announced six new products by the end of this year, out of which four will be scooters. Demand for scooters over motorcycles in a ratio of 80:20 and hence the company has not only brought their launch plans ahead but has also enhanced sales targets to increase their standing in the market.
As on date, Suzuki sales range around 3.5 lakh units of scooters per annum and occupy a market share of 12%. The company is currently trailing behind Honda, Hero MotoCorp and TVS and wishes to target increased sales to the tune of 7.5 lakh units per annum by 2017, out of which 65% will be scooters and 35% will be motorcycles. Plans are afoot to introduce automatic scooters in the 100 to 125cc categories while the company has yet to explore the 150cc segment.
New variants of Swish and Access will be introduced later this year. The Gixxer is up for launch in the motorcycle segment, while the company recently expanded their portfolio to include the Let’s scooter in the 110cc segment. Suzuki plans to launch the Gixxer on 10th August.
