Scoop: Tata Bolt launch delayed, probably to Jan 2015

Tata Zest will be launched before Bolt hatchback as planned by Tata Motors. Launch of Zest will take place in early August 2014. While Bolt was expected to be unleashed in September, new information has come to light, that it will not be launched until end of 2014 or early 2015.

tata bolt 3 sideAn employee close to the development, has revealed that Tata Bolt launch will most likely be delayed to end of this year, or early next year. Production will commence post Diwali 2014 (October), and considering not many carmakers like to launch cars in Nov/Dec, it is very likely that the Bolt will be launched early 2015.

Reason for delay is not disclosed but there are few theories that may suit. As we know its raining car launches this month and next too, mostly hatchbacks like Volkswagen Polo facelift, Fiat Punto EVO and Hyundai i20, which will rival upcoming Tata Bolt. So the company may have decided to let the buzz of already popular cars cool down, so that Bolt would get undivided limelight later.

Another postulate comes to mind, that Tata wants to be careful on pricing the Bolt, also deciding on features for each variant, to be competitive in its segment. Hence, the company may be waiting to study market reception and performance of Zest compact sedan.

Or could it be that Tata is expecting high booking / sales numbers for Zest and they want to utilise all manufacturing resources for the compact sedan only for now? This could be true as the parts suppliers are same for Bolt and Zest.

Tata Motors has begun production of Zest. First batches have rolled off the lines in Ranjangaon plant, and also at their plant in Pimpri. Though the Ranjangaon facility will be the main producer, Pimpri facility too can produce Zest if need arises, reveals a Tata Motors employee on the condition of anonymity. Tata Bolt will be produced at their Pimpri plant in Pune.
