On 18th of June 2014, Tata Motors had suspended production of all non-powersteering Nano variants at company plant in Sanand, Gujarat. Production of Tata Nano CX and LX variants had been stalled so as to clear existing stock, balance production and concentrate on the in-demand powersteering variant of Nano – Twist.
It is now reported by Business Standard that the production has commenced once again. And this time, the car maker is not manufacturing the same old Nano variant, but the facelift variant. Currently pre-production trials are being carrying out. Full fledged production is expected to start later this month or early next month. Vendors from the vendor park inside the premises of the plant, have confirmed increased orders for the new variant.
Tata Motors Sanand, Gujarat plant has a capacity to produce 2.5 lakh units per annum but has been severely underutilized due to lack of demand for the Nano. The plant had only been working for 2-3 days per week to deliver a limited number of Nano’s. However, now that the plant has commenced operations, it is believed that the new Nano with openalble boot and F-Tronic AMT will help register increase in overall Nano sales.
