Volkswagen to build low cost car for India and China
Volkswagen has confirmed that by 2015, they will be commencing production of their much awaited low cost car. This budget car is being directed towards Chinese markets where it will be released in the same year that it is produced, while it will reach Indian shores later that year or early 2016.
The upcoming budget vehicle from VW will be priced between €6,000 and €7,000, which according to today’s currency conversion rates, should be in the range of INR 4.3 lakhs to INR 5.1 lakhs. The launch of this car in India and China will play a major role in promoting Volkswagen as the largest car manufacturer in the world by 2018, in turn realizing their dream and replacing Toyota’s dominance at the top.
Development plans for the low budget car will be carried out in Germany while further development will be continued in China along with VW’s local partner. Development is being split so as to take advantage of cost benefits in countries like China, where spare parts and labor are available at reasonable rates as compared to Europe. All parts and materials will be locally sourced, while the vehicle itself will be based on currently available technology in a bid to produce this vehicle with the least possible investment. This will enable the company to keep prices well within required limits, reports AutoCar.
