2011 Volkswagen Annual report wins ‘Best of Corporate publishing’: Gold at BCP competition
The 2011 Annual Report of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft has won a Gold Award in the prestigious “Best of Corporate Publishing” (BCP) competition for outstanding combination of financial reporting and systematic magazine journalism. Volkswagen group of communications, External Affairs and Investor relations, Stephan Gruhsem said that, they were happy with this award as it signifies Volkswagen’s concept of the annual report which isn’t thought of as a mandatory publication but an image medium.
BCP award function saw the jury commending the annual report for its superb way of publishing reports and factual findings to the general public. As per the jury, Volkswagens report has surpassed criteria when it comes to marking annual reports. It also said that conclusive story telling, outstanding photography implemented by this report has allowed it to manifest into its own media genre and subsequently its own strategic business card.
Keeping in mind the fact that Volkswagen doesn’t treat its Annual report simply, they have also unveiled an Ipad App for the same. This has been done keeping in mind 2011 Volkswagen Groups Annual report motto – ‘Experience D(r) iversity’. The innovative ipad Version brings forth a new and improved dimension to presentation of the carmakers automobiles and vehicles as also brands and markets.
This Ipad App incorporates sound, images and text to help one seamlessly take in the diversity of this great brand. Entertaining films, exciting stories and excerpts as also photo galleries and animation give users a multimedia experience. Diversity makes it possible for investors, customers, shareholders and journalists to gain an insight into the company far beyond its financial report. The app can be downloaded by users through the Apple store as a free download. Stephan Gruhsem, head of group communications and Investor relations says that Volkswagen not only brings about its diversity in its Annual Report but also through numerous forms of multimedia presentations.

The 2011 Annual Report of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft has won a Gold Award in the prestigious “Best of Corporate Publishing” (BCP) competition. At the award ceremony in Berlin, the jury commended the automaker’s annual report for its outstanding combination of solid financial reporting and discerning magazine journalism.
“We are delighted with this award because it confirms our concept for the annual report, which we do not see as just a mandatory publication, but also as an image medium”, said Stephan Grühsem, General Representative of Volkswagen AG for Group Communications, External Relations and Investor Relations.
In its award commendation for the Volkswagen Annual Report 2011, the BCP jury said: “The winner of the Gold Award in the industry category is a prime example of the new world of annual reports: Storytelling at its best with outstanding photography and prominent authors. At the same time it is a classic example of media orchestration. The Volkswagen Annual Report has conclusively exited the realm of controlling and become its own media genre and strategic business card. ”
The Mainz-based agency 3st has the budget for the Volkswagen Annual Report and is also responsible for the iPad app version which was published for the first time in March 2012.
Forum Corporate Publishing (FCP) has been recognizing the best German-language corporate publications since 2003. With over 700 applications each year, the BCP Award is the largest and most significant competition in the corporate publishing sector in Europe. The jury is composed of some 140 highly-respected experts from journalism, art direction, marketing, corporate and internal communications, print and direct marketing.
