2013 Beetle TDI price starts from $23,295

The new 2013 Volkswagen Beetle will be available at dealer showrooms from August 2012 onwards as a 2013 model. The new Volkswagen Beetle diesel variant will be available from $23,295 onwards, with additional $770 as destination charges. This price is for the basic TDI model with six speed manual transmission while the two higher models with sunroof and sunroof with navigation system will be priced at $24,895 and $26,195 respectively.

The base model is equipped with a 2.0 liter turbo diesel inline four engine offering 140 hp and 236 lb/ft torque while fuel consumption is at 32 mpg within city limits and 42 mpg on the highway.

All three models (TDI, TDI with sun roof and TDI with sun roof and navigation) will be equipped with basic features such as power windows, cruise control, leather upholstered stats, Bluetooth technology, multifunctional steering wheel with audio controls and keyless entry. Also seen will be SiriusXM Satellite radio, Media Drive Interface with iPod cable and auxiliary instrument package.

This is the first Beetle TDI Clean Diesel model since 2006. From 1998 to 2006, New Beetle was fitted with a 1.9 liter turbocharged four cylinder diesel engine and since then this very engine has been revised to accommodate increasing demand for improvements in exhaust emissions and acoustics. One of the most sought after changes was conversion of fuel injection system to a common rail design besides increase of capacity by 72cc due to 1.5mm wider bore.
