2014 Lavasa Women’s Drive flag off, rally cars and results


Lavasa Women’s Drive, India’s largest women’s car rally was flagged off on Saturday from Pune. The 6th edition of Lavasa Women’s Drive (LWD), India’s largest women’s car rally saw women drive to Lavasa from Mumbai and Pune. Pune’s flag off venue was VITS where 150 cars lined up with most cars driving on with a social message to carry forth.

Among other associations, Mercedes-Benz India stepped in as Official Drive partner for Lavasa Women’s Drive 2014. In Pune, the flag off event saw Purab Kohli, Hasleen Kaur and Kirti Kulhari flag of rally vehicles. All participants wore this year’s specially designed T shirt. The photos featured in this article don’t do justice to the spirit of the rally but offer only a small glimpse into what it entails.

Lavasa Women’s Drive 2014 (83)In all, there’s a cap to the top limit of cars participating each year, as the numbers have been growing. With 350 cars flagged off from Mumbai, this year, 500 cars participated.

For the TSD rally, Mumbai participants had 11 checkpoints and Pune participants, 7. With a DJ at the finish line, all participants had a big smile at upon reaching Lavasa just before the Convention Centre from where they headed to park in designated parking lots, LWD participants first headed for lunch, then obliged for photographs with a Mercedes-Benz A-Class and B-Class parked there for a special social media contest for LWD participants.

There was a load of fun activities near the Lavasa lakeside promenade with dance, music and other fun do’s. Participants enthusiastically posed for photographs in a giant LWD theme frame, and under the big ceremonial hat with this year’s theme being ‘Hats Off’. The grand award ceremony will be held in March. Pooja S. Salokhe and Aarti Jadhav secured 1st place in the 2014 Lavasa Women’d Drive in a Tata Safari Storme.
