2014 Skoda Rapid revealed along with an altogether new variant?

2014 Skoda Rapid sedan range in Europe is now expanded as it will also be offered with a new 1.6 liter TDI engine. The engine is mated to either an automatic seven speed dual clutch transmission or a five speed manual transmission. There is also a Green tec version which will make its way into the upcoming model which is highly environmentally friendly.

The 1.6 TDI Green tec emits 104 g/km while fuel consumption is at 3.9 liters per 100 km. In all there will be six EU-5 engines being offered on the Skoda Rapid, out of which two will be 1.6 TDI offering 66 kW (88 hp) and 77 kW (103 hp) respectively, four others will include a 1.2 MPI, 1.2 TSI with 63 kW and 77kW while the last will be a 1.4 RSI offering 90 kW (120 hp).

2014 Skoda Rapid sedan will be launched in Europe on August 5 2013, where it will be seen with spruced up interiors and exteriors. A new three spoke steering wheel and new seat covers will be evident, while the Rapid will also receive xenon headlights with flux up to 2000 lumens in the near future. This system requires no headlamp leveling or cleaning system besides costs are lower as compared to xenon headlamps with a higher lumen rating.

Apart from 2014 Rapid, Skoda Auto has also teased an image of Rapid on their Facebook page. The image above is what they have shown, this makes it difficult to comprehend, if it is any different than the 2014 model. All they mentioned along with it, “Wait a minute, could this be something completely new? ?#?Rapid?.” At this time, all we can guess is that a new variant, probably Rapid RS might be unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed later this week.

2014 Skoda Rapid is highly awaited especially considering that the vehicle was voted Car of the Year and Fleet Novelty of the Year in the Czech Republic and Car of the Year in Bulgaria. The new Rapid has also won the Auto Trophy in Germany and Golden Steering Wheel in Austria and a Five Star for safety in the Euro NCAP crash tests.
