The Aston Martin RapidE concept is a joint project by the manufacturer and Williams Advanced Engineering. The two entities took a regular Rapide S, yanked off the 552 bhp V12 engine and plonked in a pure electric drivetrain.
The RapidE Concept was unveiled outside the Lancaster House in London where the visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping called on Their Royal Highnesses Price William, Duke of Cambridge and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. The venue and timing of the concept’s unveiling was not coincidental as the British supercar marque is clearly targeting the Chinese investors for its pure electric performance machine.
The concept was created following increased interest in a pure electric production model from the brand’s Chinese investors. At the time of unveil, Aston Martin and ChinaEquity investment group announced an agreement to explore the concept’s production potential.
While Aston Martin’s CEO Andy Palmer acknowledged that luxury electric vehicles will be an integral part of the brand’s future product portfolio, he was not very forthcoming with the technical details of the RapidE concept. We suspect it to be at least match the V12 engine’s performance figures.

While the Aston Martin RapidE is almost certainly destined for production, it’s too early to speculate on the launch timeline.
