German automobile manufacturers – BMW, Audi and Mercedes Benz are looking ahead at 2013 with a renewed sales plan wherein local production of cars will be enhanced, imports will be augmented, prices with be kept at competitive levels and sales will be boosted. New models are planned for import so as to make their products more appealing to Indian consumers. Bogged down by tepid sales during the past year, auto manufacturers are optimistic of the coming year to see profits rise and new products being introduced to add to allure.
BMW has already announced that they are geared to assemble their new 7 Series sedan at the Chennai plant while the new compact hatchback 1 Series will also produced there during 2013 along with the X1 SUV. The company has announced these three new products for the coming year thus hoping to maintain their lead over Audi and Mercedes Benz.
BMW sales in the past year left a lot to be desired. The company saw drop in sales to the tune of 12% in the period April to October 2012 while Audi sales increased 53% bring both the German automakers on par in the country. BMW has also launched its new X6 Sports Activity Coupe at Delhi on Thursday. It will be available as a Completely Built Up unit in all its dealer showrooms and is introduced both as petrol and diesel variants at an ex-showroom price of Rs.93.4 lakhs.
