Bajaj Dominar 400 Matte Black edition launched – Price INR 1.41 lakh
Bajaj Dominar sales have not been up to the mark. In May 2017, sales of only 872 units were registered.
Launched a couple of months ago, sales of the new Bajaj Dominar have not been upto the mark. At launch, Bajaj had hoped the Dominar will shift at least 20% of the RE owners towards buying Dominar.
Sadly, that has not been the case. RE owners continue to buy RE, while sales of Dominar continues to decline. Initially, Dominar sales were at about 3,000 units a month. But for May 2017, sales have declined to less than 900 units. In order to bring a boost in sales, Bajaj has launched launch new colour edition of the Dominar 400. Called the Dominar Matte Black Edition, prices start from INR 141,045 for non ABS variant and INR 155,215 for the ABS variant (ex-Delhi prices).
The new Bajaj Dominar is based on the Pulsar CS400 concept which was unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo. The crucial difference is, the production model ditches the USD telescopic front fork in favour of a conventional telescopic unit.
The 373.2 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled motor is derived from the KTM 390 family. The motor will benefit from Bajaj’s patented triple spark technology. The power output stands at 35 PS @ 8000 RPM and torque output stands at 35 Nm @ 6500 RPM via a six speed manual transmission.
This engine allows the Bajaj Dominar top speed to be at 159 kmph on speedo. Bajaj Dominar 0-100 kmph is achieved in 8.23 seconds, 100-0 kmph braking is achieved in 46.19 meters. Other highlights include beam type perimeter frame, telescopic 43 mm front forks, multi adjustible rear mono shock, 17 inch alloys, 110/70 front tubeless tyre, 150/60 tubeless rear tyre (MRF Revz FC1 & C1). Braking is taken care by 320 mm disc in the front and 230 mm disc at the rear. It is offered with dual channel ABS as well.
Speaking about dimensions, Bajaj Dominar 400 is 2156 mm long, 813 mm wide, and 1112 mm tall. Wheelbase stands at 1453 mm while ground clearance is at 157 mm, kerb weight is at 182 kg and fuel tank capacity is 13 liters.
Dominar 400 adopts a semi-low slung stance to offer best of cruiser and motorcycle worlds. The riding position is upright and relaxed to appeal to touring enthusiasts. Feature highlights include LED headlamp cluster, fully digital instrument console with an auxiliary display on the fuel tank, meaty tyres, and instantly recognizable twin-LED taillights.
