BMW ActiveHybrid 7 bears a strong resemblance to the 7 Series which is already on sale in India. To differentiate, tne hybrid 7er comes with ActiveHybrid 7 badges. Sporting trademark kidney shaped front grille and LED headlights with chrome accents, ActiveHybrid 7 gets larger air vents at the rear while its entire body has been so designed to allow for more efficient air flow and cut down drag.
To come into India via the Completely Built Unit route, ActiveHybrid 7 will be powered by a 3.0 liter 6 cylinder in line engine offering 320 bhp peak power and 450 Nm peak torque. An electric engine generating 55 bhp and 210 Nm torque will also work in conjuncture via ZF 8 speed automatic transmission. These two engines in tandem give ActiveHybrid 7 a combined output of 359 PS and 500 Nm torque while acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph is accomplished in 5.7 seconds. Top speed stands at 250 kmph while the vehicle returns 15 kmpl. A notable feature on board the BMW ActiveHybrid 7 is that a 120 volt lithium ion battery pack also powers its air conditioning system so that it can run when car is turned off, thus allowing for better fuel economy.
No pricing of the BMW ActiveHybrid 7 has been announced as of now, but estimates put it in the INR 1.5 to 1.8 crore brackets considering it is coming in as a full import. Following launch of the BMW ActiveHybrid 7, BMW also plans to introduce the i8 electric hybrid supercar and 2014 MINI range in India. Watch the LIVE webcast below. It will commence at 3 pm.
