BMW India to assemble 1 Series and 7 Series at Chennai Plant in 2013

Striving to retain its No.1 position in India, luxury car makers BMW have announced that they will be producing their upcoming 1 Series hatchback and 7 Series sedan models from their plant in Chennai. Starting early 2013, the production of these vehicles will commence as BMW continues to dominate the luxury car market in the country, a situation which Audi and Mercedes Benz are waiting to usurp.

BMW will be launching 1 Series hatchback by mid 2013 while 7 Series sedan will be ready for markets by end of next year. Recently launching BMW X6 crossover, BMW India President Philipp von Sahr stated that the company was committed in their efforts to enhance growth of their brands in the country and determined in their dedication to catering to needs of their Indian customers.

BMW Chennai plant currently sees production of BMW 3 Series, 5 series and the X1 SUV while it also oversees production of the diesel engine version of the X3 SUV at the plant which has a capacity to assemble 11,000 cars per annum.
