First Fiat 500 America Limited Edition auctioned on Twitter via TwitBid for €15,165 (Photos)

Back in February this year, Fiat Auto unveiled the all new limited edition version of Fiat 500 called Fiat 500 America at the Geneva Motor Show. Later in March, Fiat launched an all new promo campaign called TwitBid via their official Twitter Handle. Under TwitBid, Fiat Auto was auctioning their first Fiat 500 America unit via Twitter.

Earlier this month, Fiat Auto revealed that they received almost 800 bids, of which a bid by Mr Adelheid D. Kieper who goes by the name @KanzleiKieper on Twitter secured the first Fiat 500 America. Mr Adelheid D. Kieper’s bid was at €15,165 ($19,400). This also makes Fiat the first manufacturer to auction a car via Twitter .

First ever FIAT 500 America offered via “TwitBid”

FIAT is offering the first limited-edition FIAT 500 America to the highest bidder using a unique online platform it calls “TwitBid”. Only 500 examples of the FIAT 500 America will be built and it is possible for anyone with a Twitter account to bid for the very first car off the production line.

Once registered on participants can then bid on the Number One car (which will be distinguished by a B-pillar badge bearing the serial number 1/500 and the winner’s Twitter handle) in increments of just €1 with each bid simultaneously generating a Tweet. The bidding starts today (March 1st and continues until March 15th and the highest bidder will win the car – simple as that!

Visitors to the FIAT stand at the Geneva Motor Show will also have the chance to follow the bids in real time on a screen next to the FIAT 500 America.

The 500 America is distinguished by “Stars and Stripes” mirror covers, special decals, 16″ alloy wheels and unique “America Blue” paintwork, and it is powered by a 69hp 1.2-litre petrol engine with fuel consumption of just 5.1L/100 kilometres and CO2 emissions of just 119 g/km.

Adelheid D. Kieper, known as @KanzleiKieper to her Twitter followers, has secured  the first ever FIAT 500 America with an offer of €15,165 on TwitBid. Adelheid, from Rosche, Germany, jumped at the chance buy the car after two other Twitbidders, who made higher offers, renounced their claim on the car.

During the online promotion, which took place between March 1 and March 15, some 293 users from 11 different countries made almost 800 “twit-bids” for the exclusive #1 car. The Fiat 500 America, of which only 500 will be made, is painted a metallic shade of “America Blue” and features unique mirror covers and decals. Car #1 also features a personalized badge bearing the serial number ‘1/500’ and the twitter handle of the winner.

The “500 America” numbered edition emphasises the global soul of the Fiat 500 in Geneva, where it is displayed in the saloon version. With only 500 numbered saloon units and 500 numbered convertible units produced, the new Fiat 500 America is celebrating the country where the model was sold in 2011 and where its collaboration with the American pop singer Jennifer Lopez started. The Fiat 500 co-stars with Lopez in her videoclip of the “Papi” track taken from the “Love?” album. An enthralling 30- and 60-second TV commercial was born from this collaboration.

In the Saloon version, the 500 America is offered in the exclusive metallic shade America Blue and it is distinguished by mirror covers with “Stars & Stripes” graphics, stickers, dedicated beltline and 16″ alloy rims with red cap edge. American inspiration and iconography are also found in the interiors with red/ivory seats and contrasting white dashboard. The white three-layer paint and “Stars & Stripes” mirror covers are combined with the red top and the graphics in the colours of the American flag in the beltline in the convertible version. In this case the elegant 16″ alloy wheels are finished with a blue rim edge.

The 500 America is equipped as standard with manual air conditioning and is enriched with the kit complete with exterior chrome-plating in both saloon and convertible versions. Lastly, a badge on the pillar bearing the serial number (from 1 to 500) of this ultra-exclusive limited edition makes this car unique.
