Govt proposes new system to curb overspeeding – Toll booths to track entry and exit time

A new system is being worked upon which will use timestamps to check for speed violations.

Clocking those fancy three digits on highways could become more penalizing if the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) goes ahead with the plan it has been working upon.

As per reports, the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) is developing a digital mechanism which will use the data from toll booths and figure out the vehicles which have been over speeding in the particular stretch.

The timestamps of each vehicle will be checked and vehicles completing the distance faster than the stipulated time would be identified, making it easier for authorities to take further actions.

The authorities on the Mumbai-Pune expressway also use the same mechanism, though they do the calculations & identification manually.

Road safety in India has been a serious concern as Indian roads are notoriously known for unsafe driving and risky driving conditions. Over-speeding on highways has been one of the leading cause for fatalities on Indian roads.
