Honda Jazz is soon to be launched in South Africa, in February 2015, and probably soon after in India. For the former market, Honda Jazz will be going packing four powertrain options, which is mentioned in the earlier report – Honda Jazz South Africa specs and prices.
They are, 1.2 litre i-VTEC and 1.5 litre i-VTEC petrol engines from Brio / Amaze and City / Mobilio, producing 90 PS, 110 Nm and 120 PS, 145 Nm respectively. Same options are expected to be offered in Indian spec Jazz as well, with the addition of 1.5 litre i-DTEC diesel engine doing duty in Mobilio / City, churning out 100 PS max power @ 3,600 rpm and 200 Nm peak torque @ 1,750 rpm.
Transmission options include 5-speed manual gearbox and Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) in South African Honda Jazz. Indian version is also expected to receive CVT with paddle shifters (behind steering wheel).
Honda Jazz will have Hyundai Elite i20 as its major competitor, while Volkswagen Polo, Fiat Punto EVO and the like would also be affected. Until Maruti YRA premium hatchback launches, Swift will be taking care of rivalry with the Jazz.
