Mahindra Great Escape 78th edition 2011: Off roading adventure at Lonavla (Photos)

This Saturday morning, while most were expecting a grim day, and cozying up in bed, an expansive Mahindra team headed to Pawna Resort Club Mahindra Lonavala, with 50 SUV’s in tow. Mahindra Great Escape 78th edition 2011, a one day affair is just a preview of the rugged DNA of Mahindra vehicles, and Great Escapes are hosted often across the country each year.

Apart from a huge media presence, Mahindra owners from nearby regions came in great numbers to be a part of the Great Escape Rally. The popularly treacherous terrain isn’t the most welcoming in this rain plagued period, making the off roading experience even more difficult. If you were there for drama to watch off roaders roar in muddy and slippery ground, you wouldn’t be disappointed but what was most amazing is the success that each off roader recorded after battling the slush and slippage.

The Mahindra Great Escape 78th edition 2011 Rally saw the Scorpio, Bolero, Invader, and recently launched extreme off roader, Thar 4X4 come out in great numbers and tackle one obstacle after another, infusing the faith that Mahindra customers have in the tough and enduring nature of their SUV’s.
This time around it was the vicinity of the Tungi village enroute to Amby Valley that was chosen as the Mahindra Great Escape Route. The 2011 78th edition was held in association with Bosch, Servo Lubricants, JK Tires, and the Buddh International Circuit. M&M SUV owners are encouraged to participate in the Great Escape Rallies that are organized at least twenty times a year in various locales.

The Rushlane team got behind the wheels of a Bolero, and is happy to not have been stuck in slushy pool for long. An interesting fact about the Mahindra Great Escape Rally is that cars lineup in front may usually find themselves in an advantageous position. As more and more heavy duty off roaders go across the same paths, harmless green belts turns into deep entrenched slippery battlefields, and climbing onto higher ground can only have two results. With the acceleration up, your off roader is most likely to make the climb or tip over at such treacherous grounds. We didn’t witness the latter, and every time an SUV almost and turtle, it retreated and took the journey forward. With the 2011 Monsoons almost ready to retreat, this Mahindra Great Escape Route certainly went onto prove what an M&M SUV is capable of.

Senior Vice President, Marketing, Automotive Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Mr. Vivek Nayer had this to say. “We are delighted to host this edition of the Mahindra Great Escape at Lonavala, near Pune. This has been a very popular destination among offroading enthusiasts for its terrain, especially during the monsoons, since it gives our customers an idea of the tough and enduring nature of Mahindra vehicles.

He went on to say, “Over the years, the Great Escape has developed a reputation as one of India’s most thrilling off road events and this one was no different as it tested the limits of both man and machine to the extreme. Participants were encouraged to get ready to experience the thrill of the Great Escape and the adrenaline rush was palpable amongst the enthusiasts. Real time tweets and updates on various social networking sites by participants further added to the overall excitement of the rally. We plan to return with another fun-filled edition of the Great Escape, shortly.”
