Built on a monocoque chassis and likely to come in with various engine options, Mahindra S101 was seen in a heavily camouflaged state while on test and hence not many details were apparent. Smaller than Quanto, the new S101 might share a number of components with the Quanto, but unlike the Quanto, it is not as tall.
Spotted with horizontal round tail lamps, the S101 from Mahindra stables is expected to receive a new engine jointly developed by both Mahindra and SsangYong, their Korean subsidiary. Expect S101 to receive a turbocharged 1.2 liter or 1.4 liter petrol engine while its diesel variant will be a smaller displacement version of engines seen on board the larger Mahindra SUVs.
Base price of the S101 could be in the range of the Ford EcoSport (or even lower) and hence one can expect the price of upcoming Mahindra SUV in the sub INR 6 lakh bracket while top end versions could be priced at around INR 8.5 lakhs. Launch is expected to take place in 2015.
