Maruti Celerio diesel (1)

Spyshots of Maruti Celerio diesel top end ZDi trim have surfaced. This is not the first time that the car has been spied, but it is for the first time that the car is clearly caught wearing a diesel badge (ZDi).

Maruti Celerio diesel (1)Maruti Suzuki Celerio has been a phenomenal success in the country. Presently offered in CNG and petrol variants, it is now set to come in with a diesel engine, while the company may also offer an optional AMT on the Celerio diesel in the very near future. As suggested by the spy shots here, it seems that the Celerio diesel has already entered production.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel will be powered by an indigenously developed two cylinder 800 cc diesel engine capable of generating power of 45-50 bhp and peak torque of around 120-130 Nm. The engine promises to be fuel efficient and capable of around 30 kmpl. This diesel engine, besides making its way on board the Celerio diesel will also be fitted on a new commercial vehicle from Suzuki, codenamed Y9T as on date. This diesel engine is Maruti’s first in-house developed diesel engine that will be the smallest diesel engine to be used on a passenger vehicle, under-displacing a 936cc three cylinder engine seen on board Chevrolet Beat.

Though Celerio diesel will receive minor tweaks with regard to suspension, other external and internal design / features will remain the same as seen on its petrol engined counterpart.

Slated to come in four trim levels LXi, VXi, ZXi and ZXi(O), Celerio diesel is likely to get a price tag of around INR 4.6 lakhs thus making it the cheapest diesel car in India. Once launched, Celerio diesel will compete with Chevrolet Beat diesel in India.
