Launch of Maruti Ertiga MUV in September 2012, has propelled India’s largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki into second position, replacing Toyota Kirloskar Motors, where MPV sales in India are concerned. Mahindra and Mahindra remain in the top position with their host offerings in this segment. Ertiga, launched in 6 versions, with prices varying from Rs.6 lakhs to Rs.8.90 lakhs has seen accelerated demand.
In the month of October 2012, Maruti sold 7,400 units while Toyota sales were at 7,291 units. Sales of Maruti UVs in India during the period April to October 2012 stood at 47,766 units. The company’s market share in the UV segment increased to 15.4% from just 2.1% in the same period in 2011. M&M’s market share in this segment is at 46.5%, lowered from the 56.5% share it held in the same period of the previous year.
Maruti is looking forward to enhanced sales of Ertiga specially backed by an enhanced service network which is spread over 2,200 cities across India. It is Ertiga’s attractive pricing and excellent fuel efficiency which is taking the company ahead as it grows stronger in this segment.
