Mazda CX-5 SUV was awarded 2012-13 Car of the Year Japan while Subaru BR-Z won the 2012-2013 Car of the Year Japan Special Award. These awards were announced by Japan Car of the Year committee at a special function held on November 29, 2012. Apart from this, Mazda also revealed that they have received a go ahead for restructuring Changan Ford Mazda, a JV between Mazda, Changan, and Ford. Thanks to this restructure, now Changan Mazda and Changan Ford are two separate JVs.
Mazda CX-5 is the first model seen with Mazda SKYACTIV technologies. It possesses new engines along with state of the art transmission. The vehicle offers a better driving experience and is noted for its safety features and low level of auto emissions coupled with better fuel economy. Also seen for the first time is the new Mazda design theme KODO – Soul for Motion.
CX-5 is fitted with a highly efficient diesel engine offering driving performance on par with a 4.0 liter V8 gasoline engine. It delivers 420 Nm torque while consumption is pegged at 4.6 liters per 100 km and auto emissions are at 119g per km. Ever since the vehicle went on sale in February this year, the company has received over 37,000 orders in Japan alone, 33,000 orders from Europe and over 128,000 overall (globally).
