McLaren 650S Spider marks 50 years of Can-Am

In celebration of 50th anniversary of inaugural Can-Am racing season, McLaren Special Operations has released a Limited Edition McLaren 650S Spider.

McLaren 650S Spider limited edition celebrating 50 years of Can-Am is seen in distinctive red, orange and onyx black paint, reminiscent of past liveries. The first Can-Am season was held in 1966 with McLaren winning five consecutive championships from 1967 to 1971.

McLaren Special Operations borrows some design cues from race cars of yore to introduce the new limited edition McLaren 650S Spider. Seen with carbon fiber retractable hard top, front splitter, rear bumper center, airbrakes and door blades, McLaren 650S Spider Can-Am sits on bespoke forged alloy wheels with glossy black finish and diamond cut rims. These alloy wheels are fitted with titanium bolts and Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres.

Being offered in exteriors of Mars Red, Papaya Spark and Onyx Black, McLaren 650S Spider Can-Am sees extensive use of carbon fiber in its make-up, right from carbon ceramic brakes with black calipers, carbon fiber louvered front wings while quad exhaust system with polished stainless steel is also seen.

Interiors are completely done up in quality leather and Alcantara, distinguished by carbon fiber accents and a plaque mounted on the driver’s door spelling its limited edition in celebration of 50 years of Can-Am.

McLaren 650S Spider Can-Am sees only visual updates while engine specifications continue in the form of V8 3.8 liter twin turbo engine with 650 PS peak power and 678 Nm peak torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 is achieved in 3 seconds while top speed stands at 329 kmph.

Limited to just 50 units, McLaren 650S Spider Can-Am will be priced at £255,850 (US$ 392,128, INR 2,54,01,051 ). Deliveries commence from spring of 2016.
