Mercedes Benz expects Formula One to tweak consumer interest in India

At a press conference at the Hyatt Regency at New Delhi, the partnership between Mercedes-Benz India and Buddh International Circuit was elaborated upon, and Mercedes Benz went on to layout details of their sporting package for India. Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, Mr. Peter Honegg, Director Sales and Marketing for Mercedes-Benz India, Mr. Debashis Mitra, and Managing Director and CEO of JPSI Sports Mr. Sameer Gaur were all in attendance.

Mr. Peter Honegg had this to say. “Mercedes-Benz is a performance brand and our long association with Motorsports is a testimony to this fact. It has been our endeavor to enable more people to experience the performance and dynamism of our cars, and we will continue to do so in times to come.” “My earlier experience in China and Southeast Asia shows that once sports like Formula One features in, consumer interest also increases significantly.”

Mr. Debashis Mitra said, “Our partnership with JPSI is a key enabler towards our efforts in popularizing Motorsport in India. Our activations across major metros and unique engagements like “MTV Date with Speed” and “Pit Stops” at our dealerships will create further excitement around Mercedes-Benz Motorsport amongst our young customers and enthusiasts of the brand Mercedes-Benz. We definitely look forward to welcome Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg during the Indian leg of Formula One.”

Mr. Sameer Gaur went on to say. “We are pleased to have Mercedes-Benz as the Official Partners for Buddh International Circuit. Mercedes-Benz has a rich tradition and a proven dominance in Motorsports arena and enjoys a huge brand legacy and following across the globe. Together with Mercedes-Benz, JPSI will play a pivotal role in popularizing Motorsport in India. Buddh International Circuit will act as a new platform to create a talent pool of next gen motorsports champions of India”.

The association of Mercedes Benz with the Buddh International Circuit was expected, and in fact awaited. Active interventions by Mercedes Benz to promote Motorsports in India will go a long way in bringing the sport to many more people.  Apart from taking Motorsports in India to people every step of the way it’ll also be the first time the country wakes up to such an international phenomenon as F1. Another first will see Mercedes drivers Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg compete for the title, and for the first time, the Force India team will have a home race, with the home crowd cheering on Adrian Sutil and Paul di Resta. It’s an exciting two months until race weekend and there’s a lot that can be done to get an entire country excited about an international sport like F1.
