Mercedes Benz to supply 2,600 school buses for Brazilian training program


Mercedes-Benz do Brasil, market leaders in construction of buses and coaches, have been selected to deliver 2600 school buses to Brazilian training program. The company will be delivering 2600 units of OF1519 R Chassis buses to the Brazilian Ministry of Education and will be assembled as school buses along with Caio, Brizilian body builder and will be funded by the national fund for training and development.

The entire order is to be completed during the coming year and should be capable of meeting all statutory requirements which include comfort and safety features as stipulated for transportation of school children. These buses will be put to use in rural areas and hence need to be rugged, high performance vehicles capable of withstanding rough and rocky rural road conditions.

Each of these buses will be fitted with Mercedes Benz BlueTec 5 technology and strictly adhere to stringent economic and environmental stipulations and should comply with PROCONVE P-7 emission standards.

OF 1519 R unveiled in early 2012, is specially designed for off road conditions and highly reliable on rough and unsurfaced roads. This particular model is also the recipient of the Brazilian “Bus of the Year” prize at AutoData 2012 Awards. With the delivery of these 2600 units Mercedes Bens will have sold over 4700 commercial vehicles in Brazil since August 2012, 1700 Atego models to the Ministry of Defence and 400 Sprinter models for mobile rescue to Health Ministry of Brazil.
