A 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO sold for $38.115 million at the Bonhams auction in Monterey, California earlier last year is among the nine of the ten most expensive cars sold at auctions in 2014. This was the highest price ever paid at a public auction for a car.
The Italian automaker dominated the collector car market with 1962 250 GTO being followed by eight other top models from Ferrari, which were sold at public auctions during 2014. Although 1962 250 GTO sold for an astounding $38 million, the figure was actually lower as to what had been expected. The company had expected to fetch a sum of $50 million, as the car was super-exclusive as Ferrari had only built 39 units of the 250 GTO.
Other Ferrari models auctioned in 2014 and feature on the list are – 1964 Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale for $26.4 million, 1954 Ferrari 375-Plus Spider Competizione auctioned at $18.4 million, 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider for $15.18 million, 1964 Ferrari 250 LM for $11.55 million, 1967 Ferrari GTB/4 for $10.175 million, 1958 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spyder for $8.8 million, 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/C for $7.86 million and last but not least a 1953 Ferrari 250 Mille Miglia Berlinetta for $7.86 million.
