Considering that Hero Motocorp’s technical alliance with Honda is now a past, the new Splendor Pro could very well be testing an all-new homegrown commuter motor to replace the current 97 cc unit which has been soldiering along for decades with an astronomical success. The new engine which is expected to receive technical inputs from Hero’s current technical partners AVL Austria, Engines Engineering and EBR would have its displacement in the vicinity of 100 cc. Needless to say, priority will be given to fuel economy. Estimated power and torque outputs stand at around 8 bhp and 8 Nm respectively. The new motor will continue to be mated to a 4-speed transmission.
Hero Motocorp’s elevated interest in international markets means the new powertrains will have to be world class. The motor will not only power the new Splendor Pro but also will be at the hear of every upcoming Hero commuter including Passion Pro, CD Delux, HF Dawn and so on.
