Not that Hyundai Elite i20 is poorly equipped but the South Korean automaker has decided to enhance the segment leading premium hatchback’s features list to face an imminent threat from new Honda Jazz.

Later this month, higher variants of Hyundai Elite i20 would be equipped with touchscreen infotainment system, a feature that will also be offered by its primary rival from Japan. Apart from audio and Bluetooth telephony, the factory fitted system will also incorporate satellite navigation.

New touchscreen infotainment system which is to be introduced later this month will feature satellite navigation.

This move leaves VW Polo behind in the features race as it doesn’t offer touchscreen infotainment system even in fully loaded variants. In addition to Polo and new Jazz, Elite i20 will also have to fend off an onslaught from Maruti YRA (production version of IK-2).

2015 Honda Jazz which is set to launch on July 8 is expected to match the equipment level of Hyundai Elite i20 if not better it. So, naturally pricing and fuel efficiency would play important roles in this fierce battle. Both hatchbacks are heavily localized in India and offer impressive FE ratings.

Hyundai Elite i20 gets a 1.2-litre petrol motor which is good for 83 PS and 115 Nm of torque, and a 1.4-litre diesel engine which is capable of 90 PS and 220 Nm of torque. In comparison, Jazz will get a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine.

Introduction of touchscreen infotainment system is expected increase Elite i20’s price tag by INR 10,000-15,000.
