New Range Rover model between Evoque and Sport to launch in 2018?

At the ongoing New York International Auto Show (2015 NYIAS), Gerry McGovern, Design Director at Land Rover, said there are a couple of “white space” opportunities in the model lineup of Range Rover, which needs to be explored.

According to an Australian media, Motoring, the Range Rover product portfolio is going to grow by the end of this decade.
The publication suggests that an all-new Range Rover is in its early stages of development, to fit into one of the white spaces. This one probably between Range Rover Evoque and Sport, where the gap is a bit large.

This new Range Rover model could be underpinned by a modified version of Evoque’s platform, and could be a larger 5-seater option after Evoque, instead of a smaller 7-seater beneath the Sport. It can be expected to come out as a concept form next year or the year after, and market launch could happen in, say 2018.

Meanwhile, this year, Gerry McGovern confirmed debut of a new Range Rover model at 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, in September. There is no indication as to which model it really would be, but chances of it being either a production-ready Evoque Cabrio or a performance version of Discovery Sport, are very good.
