Spyshots of Renault Kwid have been pouring in and here are first images of the A-segment car’s 800 cc petrol motor. The extremely compact and lightweight all-aluminium engine was developed at Renault Nissan Technology Business Centre India (RNTBCI). It incorporates Renault’s knowledge and experience in powertrain development and is devoid of any expensive technology.

Renault Kwid AMT would further enhance the budget small car’s appeal.

Renault said that fuel efficiency of the motor will be among the best in the country. Recent media reports suggest that the motor will produce 57 bhp, making it the most powerful in its segment. In comparison, Maruti Alto 800 produces 47.3 bhp and Hyundai Eon 800 is good for 55.2 bhp.

In addition to 5-speed manual gearbox, Kwid is confirmed to offer a 5-speed AMT. It is the first product to be based on Renault-Nissan’s CMF-A and the same powertrain set up will be offered on board upcoming Datsun redi-Go.
