Italy’s SWM Motorcycles to launch 600 cc offroad motorcycle in India

SWM SuperDual T 600 cc motorcycle is based on Husqvarna TE630.

SWM Motorcycles, a lesser known Italian two wheeler brand which was resurrected in 2014 by Shineray Group of China, is gearing up to enter India by October 2017. To be a part of Kinetic’s Motoroyale premium motorcycle division which also retails MV Agusta in India, the new brand will be targeting the flourishing affordable sportsbike segment.

SWM Motorcycles’ portfolio currently comprises enduro, supermoto and street models with displacements ranging from 125 cc to 650 cc. The brand bought Husqvarna’s shuttered Varese facility near Milan to support its production operations. It’s to be noted that most of SWM’s products are based on licenses acquired from Husqvarna before its ownership switched hands form BMW to KTM. KTM proceeded to use its own engines on new Husqvarna products.

Motoroyale reportedly has the option of importing any of the SWM models to India, but their focus in the first phase will be on the SuperDual T and X adventure tourers. SWM SuperDual T is slated to be the first model to be launched in India.

The adventure tourer in question is based on Husqvarna TE630 and is powered by a 600 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine which is mated to a 6-speed transmission. The motor produces a healthy 57 PS.

Noteworthy features include standard ABS, adjustable Fast Ace front and Sachs rear suspension systems, front and rear disc brakes, and spoke wheels. The SuperDual X comes equipped with larger rims and upmarket Metzeler tyres.

We expect the price to start under INR 6 lakhs for SWM SuperDual T.
