Mr. Mistry had earlier suggested the team to improve tactile feel of AC knobs and reduce thickness of chrome lining on AC ducts. He also recommended that texture of steering wheel could be made better and glossiness shall be toned down. Later when he tested the Zest in Pune, he felt the knobs could still be perfected, while the rest were up to his expectations. It is believed that under guidance of Mr. Cyrus Mistry, Tata Motors is progressing significantly, and that company would revive soon. His focus is set on making products more aspirational through improved quality and design. Manufacturing operations, product development process and quality systems of Tata Motors are being scrutinised and refined with aid from Jaguar Land Rover. Mr Mistry’s active involvement has resulted in a refined Zest, Bolt and Nano.
Tata Motors recorded its lowest market share in a decade, of 7.94% in 2013-14 fiscal, in passenger vehicles market. From 17% share a decade ago, Tata lost about 50%, thereby giving up its No.3 rank in passenger vehicles (cars & utility vehicles) segment to close competitor Mahindra & Mahindra, in previous financial year. Now, top four seats have Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Mahindra and Honda.Tata Zest is expected to launch in August 2014, after which Bolt hatchback will be launched, sometime around September. Bolt is also expected to boost company’s market position. Since Zest launches first, the compact sedan carries more bet and stress. Later in the year, Tata will launch the Nano Twist Active.
