As India’s largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki is all-set to begin a new chapter in its history of over thirty years – design first ever car here in India. The company will roll out Vitara Brezza compact SUV at the 2016 Auto Expo, which was first displayed as a concept back in 2012.
While Maruti Suzuki R&D team in India works in collaboration with the global team on a host of models, it was the Vitara Brezza which is completely planned and designed by the team in India with no inputs from the global team. Work on Vitara Brezza project commenced in 2011 while it took the company three and half years to develop into a production model ready for road-test. This time period is the same as that taken by Suzuki global R&D team to completely develop a product.
It was only the wind tunnel and rust endurance testing on the Maruti Vitara Brezza which was conducted at the Suzuki global engineering facility, outside India. Other testing took place at the company’s R&D facilities in Rohtak and Gurgaon so as to ensure that the Vitara Brezza complied with required standards and testing demands for a new vehicle.
Vitara Brezza compact SUV marks the entry of Maruti Suzuki into a segment where it had no presence till date. The launch of Maruti Vitara Brezza is seen as an opportunity for the company to experience favorable growth, despite growing competition in this segment. The Brezza will be sold through regular company dealerships and not through NEXA outlets while it will compete with the likes of Mahindra TUV300, Ford EcoSport and soon to be launched Tata Nexon.
