Carmen Chamblee, a 19-year-old from Florida has been charged with second-degree arson after she torched a Honda car thinking it belonged to her ex-boyfriend. The girl struck a rag into the car’s gas tank and set it on fire on August 27. She was seen cycling away after the fire raged and flames entered the car’s cabin.
The real owner of the car, Thomas Jennings, who has no idea who the lady was, was stunned to see his car ablaze after he was alerted by his roommate. He went running out of his house with a pot of water in a futile effort to douse the flames.
Chamblee has been charged with arson and was taken to the Pinellas County Jail on Saturday and was scheduled to appear before the judge.
Chamblee’s arrest occurred days after Clearwater Police Dept. posted a video of the entire incident on its Facebook page. The suspect was identified after the police received tips from the public while she was taken into custody just south of Clearwater on Saturday morning.
Booked on arson charges, her bail is set at $10,000. She has revealed that she thought the Honda belonged to her ex-boyfriend when in fact it was owned by a total stranger.
