Codenamed F15, upcoming X5 will be powered by a 3.0 liter diesel engine giving out max. power of 258bhp at 4,000 rpm and 560Nm peak torque from 1,500 – 3,000 rpm. Yes, it’s the same power machine that drives BMW 530d and 730d saloons.
There is also a 2.0 liter diesel variant, one that was showcased earlier this year at Auto Expo 2014. Named X5 xDrive25d, it featured the same engine used in BMW 525d saloon, that pushes out 218bhp max. power at 4,400 rpm and 450 Nm peak torque from 1,500 to 2,500 rpm. However, this variant is not confirmed for Indian launch, but if it does see Indian roads officially, it will be raced against Mercedes ML250 CDI.
New X5 is undoubtedly larger than its older doppelganger but it comes out lighter, as a result of multiple weight-reduction deeds. With interiors featuring trendy BMW tech and 5 and 7 seat options, it is likely to give good numbers as for sales this year.
Price of new BMW X5 base version (5-seater) is expected to be around Rs. 70 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) while top end 7-seater might cost around Rs. 75 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
